Year End Report...and what a year it was

Thursday, December 03, 2009

gallery interiorHere we are, in the middle of the Holiday Season and once again looking at the last month of the year.  We look forward to Christmas ourselves, and wish all our friends and customers a Happy Holidays, no matter how you choose to celebrate them.  As we look forward to the New Year right around the corner, we also look back on the past year and, speaking for the Green Door Gallery, we look back on a year of hard work, highly satisfying success, major changes, and more hard work.

We thank all of you, our friends and customers, for helping us to make the Green Door a success.  When Amy and Paulette began the Green Door project they truly didn't know what to expect.  They knew that they needed an outlet for Amy's artistic production, but they also knew there was a space in our town for something that they both felt they could add to the shops here.  The creativity and genuine sense of fun that they both felt they could bring to the retail experience has apparently been something that our customer base has apprecitated, based on the reception we have been so thankful for.  We hope to keep up our end of the bargain through many years to come, providing all the visitors and locals who come through The Green Door with a bit more, a bit extra... and a lot that is special.

After a hugely successful summer, we've now taken over all over all of the ground floor of the Orman Building.  We are adding new artists and new gallery interiorlines of interesting items all the time.  We are focused on local or regional art but also have a few lines (like the Dash & Albert line) that we have chosen for their quality and beauty but which are national is scope.

We are constantly adding local artists like basket weavers, knitters, potters, woodworkers and more.  We also have a couple of contributing vendors in our "Green Door family" who are scouring the southeast for items of unique interest to bring to the Green Door and offer to our customers.  We will have more articles soon introducing more of our family of artists and contributors.

All in all it has been a very busy but very rewarding enterprise so far.  We could never have come this far without you, our loyal customers and friends, and will never be able to sustain our success without the continued level of support from friends, family and customers that we have been lucky enough to enjoy so far.

We thank each and every one of you for being a part of our "Great Green Door Adventure" and we promise to do everything in our power to continue to make the Green Door Gallery in Apalacicola a magical and very special place for years to come.

We've Moved!

Saturday, May 23, 2009

the green doorThe Green Door quickly exceeded our wildest expectations and we grew out of our first home so fast that the dust barely had time to settle.  We moved to the Historic Orman building, putting us right in the middle of town at 32 Avenue D in a beautifully restored historic building.  The building was once a laundromat, once a pool hall, then was originally renovated by the talented jewelry artist Kristen Anderson and used as her home, studio and Gallery for a number of years.  Kristen moved on, another local couple took over the building and added to her renovations with a complete restoration of the beautiful building to its original beauty.

We occupy most all of the ground floor.  We have a shop area in the front, which is close to the size of the original Green Door.  We then have a hallway with a studio for Amy off to one side which then opens into our back area, again about the same size.  Our back door opens on to a nice little courtyard area that we hope to make great use of once we get settled.  In the middle of the building, between our front area and Amy's studio, is the small but delicious home of Apalachicola's own Chocolatier.  Making fine gourmet quality chocolate and chocolates from scratch, our neighbor is nothing less than a delightful temptation.

Come visit us soon in our new digs.  Sign up for our newsletter which we promise we will start sending out semi-regularly very soon, keeping all our friends and customers up to date on the doings here at Amy's Green Door and in Apalachicola and our area.

Welcome To Our New Website

Friday, April 10, 2009

We are happy to welcome you to our new home online, the website of The Green Door in Apalachicola, Florida. We have all worked hard to make this new site a reality and are very pleased with the outcome and hope you like it and our efforts will be worthwhile.

We will keep our online offerings fresh, adding new original paintings as the ones here sell and are replaced in our inventory by the ever busy Amy Friedman. We will also change out our "Gallery Favorites" from time to time, offering new items in that category as our tastes and stock vary from season to season.

Take your time, look around, see what we have to offer and who we are. We are glad you stopped by and hope you feel welcome. Once you get a taste of what we have to offer, we hope you will come and visit us when you are in Apalachicola. Stop by and let us know you saw us online.

Enjoy your stay here and by all means, Have Fun!
